You usually discover the problem when the calendar is already open. Your PTE test is on the same day as a work shift, a flight, a university deadline, or a week when you clearly are not ready. Then the question appears, can I change my PTE exam date?

01 The 14-day rule decides what you can do

If there are more than 14 full calendar days before your test, you can usually reschedule the appointment for free through myPTE. The word full matters. Looking at a calendar and thinking there are two weeks left is not always the same as meeting the policy threshold. Your appointment page is the final place to check before you submit a change.

If your test is in 14 days or less, the Reschedule button will usually not appear in your myPTE dashboard. In that situation, you need to cancel the existing appointment and book a new one. That can lead to a cancellation charge, a partial refund, or no refund, depending on how close you are to test day. The original payment does not automatically become a flexible credit that you can use whenever you want.

Pearson’s current cancellation policy generally works like this. Cancelling at least 14 full calendar days before the test usually gives you a full refund. Cancelling 13 to 8 full calendar days before the test usually gives you a 50% refund. With fewer than 7 full calendar days left, there is usually no refund. Local pages, test types, and exceptional cases can affect what you see, so check the amount shown in your own account before confirming.

There is also a limit on repeated changes. A single test appointment can usually be rescheduled up to six times. That sounds generous until you start pushing a date back every time your practice session feels rough. A new date should fit your application deadline, travel plans, and actual preparation time, not only your mood on one difficult study day.

I like this part of the policy because it keeps the decision in the right place. Pearson manages the booking. It does not decide whether you feel ready. That part is still yours.

02 How to change the date in myPTE

Sign in to your myPTE account and open My Activity. Find the relevant test appointment, then look at the booking details for Reschedule or Cancel. If Reschedule is available, choose it and follow the prompts to select a new test centre, date, and time.

Do not choose the first available date just because it is visible. Check whether you can reach the centre on time, whether the new appointment conflicts with work or an application deadline, and whether the extra days are enough to fix a real weakness. Moving the test date only helps when the added time becomes a better study plan. Otherwise, the anxiety simply moves to a later day.

Before you confirm, review the test type, test centre, date, start time, personal details, and any amount shown on the screen. Test centres can have similar names, especially in large cities. A location that looks close on a search page may create a difficult commute on test day. You have already paid for the appointment, so the final review is worth the extra minute.

After submitting the change, check for a success message, then open My Activity again. Look for the new appointment details and check your email for a confirmation message. Keep the new appointment number, date, and time in your calendar. An old confirmation email does not prove that the new date was saved.

If the page freezes or the payment status is unclear, check your bank or payment account before clicking again. Do not submit the same payment several times just because the page is slow. A delayed page and a completed payment can look very similar for a few minutes. If the status remains unclear, contact Pearson support with your account email, appointment number, test date, and payment information.

When the test is close and the Reschedule button is missing, simply not showing up is not a reliable solution. A no-show does not automatically preserve the booking or move the fee to another date. Pearson may consider free rescheduling for a medical or family emergency when you provide acceptable evidence, but that is discretionary rather than an automatic right. Contact the official support channel as soon as you know there is a serious problem.

03 Use the new date to repair your preparation

Many candidates feel immediate relief after changing the date, then stop working for a while. The new appointment looks far away, so the same mistakes wait quietly in the background. Two weeks later, the calendar is close again and the preparation has barely changed. A date change is useful only when your daily practice changes with it.

Start with one full mock test and record more than the total score. Note where speaking becomes unstable, where writing loses structure, where reading time disappears, and where listening errors come from spelling or attention. Then turn the weakest areas into small daily tasks. With about a month left, you can rotate question-type practice, error review, and full mocks. With less time, focus on recurring mistakes and test-day flow instead of replacing every resource at once.
