Can I Change My PTE Exam Date? 14-Day Rules and Refunds [2026 Guide]

The problem often appears when you are already looking at your calendar. A work shift has moved, a flight has changed, a university deadline has slipped, or you have realised that your preparation is not where you wanted it to be. Then the question arrives, can I change my PTE exam date?

For PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI, the answer is usually yes, but the timing controls the options. Pearson uses full calendar days before the appointment to decide whether you can move it directly in myPTE. The button is not permanent, and it may disappear while the test date gets close. If you remember one thing, remember this, an earlier decision usually gives you more room to choose.

01 The 14-day rule decides whether direct changes are possible

Pearson’s current policy places a lot of weight on 14 full calendar days. If there are more than 14 full calendar days before your appointment, you can usually sign in to myPTE, open the existing booking, and choose Reschedule to select another available date without a rescheduling fee. The word full matters. Looking at a calendar and thinking that two weeks remain is not always the same as meeting the policy threshold. Your appointment page is the place to check before you confirm anything.

If your test is in 14 days or less, the Reschedule option will usually disappear from the booking page. You generally cannot keep moving the same order further into the future. You need to cancel the existing appointment and book a new one instead. That creates a new payment situation, and the amount you paid for the first appointment does not automatically become a flexible credit. Many candidates think they are only changing a date, then discover that the system has moved them into the cancellation flow.

The refund depends on how much time remains. Cancelling more than 14 full calendar days before the test usually gives you a full refund. With 14 to 7 full calendar days left, you usually receive a 50% refund. With 7 calendar days or less remaining, there is usually no refund. Pearson also says that medical or family emergencies may be considered at its discretion, but that is not an automatic right to free rescheduling or a refund. You may need to submit evidence, and Pearson decides whether it is acceptable.

There is another limit that is easy to miss. A single test appointment can usually be rescheduled up to six times. Once that limit is reached, the Reschedule option may disappear even when the test is still not very close. Before moving the date, put your application deadline, travel plan, document timeline, and actual practice volume on the same calendar. A bad practice day does not always call for a new exam date. Several weeks of the same problem is a clearer reason to reconsider the timing.

I would treat 14 days as an internal checkpoint, not as the moment when you finally start thinking about the booking. When there are 16 or 17 days left, you can sign in and see whether the option and useful test-centre slots are still available. That does not mean you have to reschedule. It simply tells you what choices remain. A popular weekend slot may be gone by the time you are ready to make the decision.

The rule can feel strict, but it manages the appointment. It does not decide whether you are ready to perform well. That part still comes from the work you do before test day.

02 How to change the date in myPTE

Sign in to your myPTE account and open My Activity. Find the relevant appointment and open its booking details. If Reschedule is visible, follow the prompts to select a new test centre, date, and time. If you only see Cancel, do not keep refreshing or submit another payment immediately. It often means the appointment is already within the restricted period, or it has reached the maximum number of reschedules.

When you choose a new date, do not look only for the earliest available slot. Check the test type, centre address, start time, and journey to the centre. Large cities may have several centres with similar names, and a location that looks close on a search screen may be difficult to reach during your actual morning. The new date should also leave enough time to work on a real weakness, such as speaking fluency, listening spelling, or writing structure.

The confirmation page may show information from both the old and new appointment. Read through the test type, centre, date, start time, personal details, and any amount shown for payment. If you are cancelling and rebooking within 14 days, pay even closer attention to the refund message and the cost of the new booking. When people are anxious, they often see the date they want and skip the city or test type.

After submitting the change, a success message is useful, but it is not the only check. Open My Activity again and confirm that the new appointment is displayed. Then look for the confirmation email. Save the new appointment number, date, time, and centre address in your calendar. An older confirmation email should not be treated as proof that your latest change was saved.

If the page freezes or the payment status is unclear, check your bank or payment account before clicking again. A slow page and a completed payment can look almost identical for a few minutes. Do not submit the same payment several times, and do not create another booking just to test whether the first one worked. If the status stays unclear, contact Pearson support with your account email, appointment number, test date, and payment details.

Some candidates see that the Reschedule option is gone and decide not to attend. A no-show does not automatically move the appointment to a later test, and it does not automatically preserve the fee. If you have a medical or family emergency, check Pearson’s official emergency reschedule process as soon as you know there is a serious problem and submit the requested evidence. Approval is discretionary, so leaving it until after the appointment makes the situation harder to explain.

03 Use the extra time to repair your preparation

The most common trap after rescheduling is simple. You feel relieved on the first day, tell yourself there is plenty of time on the second day, and then return to the old routine. The appointment has moved, but speaking pauses, WFD spelling errors, and slow reading have not fixed themselves. Extra time only has value after it becomes a set of actions you can repeat.

Start with one full mock test and record more than the total score. Note which speaking task causes the most hesitation, whether writing loses points through ideas or sentence control, which reading task consumes the clock, and whether listening errors come from missing the sound, forgetting it, or spelling it incorrectly. These notes are more useful than a single high or low score because they tell you what to practise next week.

With about a month before the new appointment, you can rotate question-type practice, error review, and full mock tests. With only two or three weeks, keep the plan narrower. Pick the two problems that keep returning, practise each one in a short daily session, and use a timed task to see whether the performance becomes steadier. Many candidates reschedule and then buy another set of resources. They spend the extra days searching for materials instead of speaking, writing, reviewing, and repeating.
