Original public practice
Summarize Written Text
A four-year study followed students who used public transport to reach campus. Researchers found that reliable service reduced late arrivals, but the benefit was smaller when transfers were poorly coordinated. Students also reported that predictable travel time helped them plan study sessions. The report concluded that cities should evaluate the full journey, including waiting and transfer time, rather than measuring only the speed of a single route.
A practical way to practise Summarize Written Text
Start with the passage's argument
Summarize Written Text asks you to read a passage and express its main point in one sentence. The sample on this page describes a study of public transport and campus attendance. Notice the central relationship: reliable service helps students arrive on time, while poorly coordinated transfers reduce that benefit. Waiting and transfer time matter to the overall journey. A useful summary preserves that relationship instead of listing every detail from the study.
Build one sentence, then check its form
Write a main clause that names the topic and conclusion, then connect the most important supporting point with a relative clause or a suitable conjunction. Avoid joining several complete sentences with commas. The live counter shows your current word count and the number of sentence-ending marks it can detect. Pearson's task instruction sets a maximum of 75 words and asks for one complete sentence. The counter is a form check; it cannot decide whether your summary accurately represents the source.
Use the result as a revision prompt
If the counter shows more than one sentence, combine related ideas carefully or remove a detail that does not support the main point. If the draft is too long, replace a list with a broader phrase and remove repeated context. If it is very short, check that you kept both the main conclusion and its key condition. This tool does not provide an automatic content score or award a Pearson scale score. It helps you catch visible format problems before reviewing meaning.
Continue with account-based AI feedback
For feedback on a question-bank response, continue to the signed-in SWT practice area. Eligible accounts that have never had a membership can use three free AI scoring trials shared across speaking and writing question types. The allowance is account-based, not a new voucher for each public page. You will need to sign up or sign in, then work with an eligible question in the practice bank. A trial is used only for a successful score under the existing scoring flow.
